What is Technology?

With the right skills, technology can be used to fulfill our needs for information and knowledge. Technology is used to perform various tasks every day. Technology is an essential part of our lives today. Technology is used to collect and accomplish information. In almost all workplaces, technology is used. The technology has both pros and con, but we can’t deny its dependence. Technology is very important to us because it makes our jobs easier. For example, we can pay our bills or order lunch from our desk. All these things can be done with a couple of clicks. But the dependence has also caused harm such as false information spreading or unemployment. The procedure for the assignment is based on these topics.

HistoryTechnology and business have evolved, as well as the education sector and workplaces. Although the media has focused on this technology revolution, it actually began slowly over several decades. In fact, the first telegraph was invented in 1850. It is no surprise that the telephone, fax and other modern technologies like video-conferencing or wireless communication have given businesses greater flexibility and efficiency. In today’s highly-technical workplace, proficiency with complicated phone systems, faxes, and sometimes networked PCs are essential. CISCO Systems sells over $7 million a single day via electronic commerce. CISCO hired more than 9000 new employees between 1995 and 2000, while also saving “$270,000,000 a yr in staff costs, software distributions, and paper work” (“Cisco”) By February 1998, 20 million users were accessing the Internet regularly from their office (Relevant). These much-praised advances, however, impose radical changes on what workers are expected to do and where they work.

The Current ContextAccording Pew Research Center’s research, the Millennial generation comprises more than a third of American employees today. They are also a digital native generation. Social media and broadband are part of their everyday lives. They also expect instant information and instant feedback, since they are used to it from using Facebook and social networks. PwC commissioned a study on Millennials, titled “Millennials: Reshaping Workplace”, which included 75 countries. This generation had specific expectations for technology in the workplace. They expect that technology will be used to drive innovation and improve communication in the workplace. The truth is:59% responded that an employer’s ability to provide the most up-to date technology when it comes to a potential job was very important.78% stated that accessing the technology which they use regularly makes them better at their jobs.41% replied they would prefer to communicate by email or text rather than face to face.

Computer science and Information Technology continues to grow. Those students who are interested in careers in computer science and information technology will be hired upon graduation. U.S. News & World Report cites this as one of the top 10 career choices. It states that computer software engineers will be in high demand from 2008-2018 because they are “designing, building, integrating, and maintaining those increasingly complex system continues to grow.” The demand for high-tech products will cause the technology industry to grow exponentially, according to statisticians.

DisadvantagesDistractions: Technology is highly distracting. It only takes a click to browse social media or chat online. Smartphones give you the ability to access the entire world from your desk, while computers let you share, chat, and follow friends, family, and news.

Costs: The cost of technology has always been high. In addition to the cost of purchasing technology, maintenance and support can add a lot to your company’s costs. The latest versions of software are released every few weeks, and you have to update them, as well as train your staff on how to use the latest version.

Support and security issues: Many modern technologies used at the workplace are underestimated, including tablets. Tablets are portable, but they still require the same security and support as desktop or laptop computers. The portable devices are a vital part of your business, so it is important to monitor their usage to avoid security breaches and data loss.

Customer Retention Problems and Hesitation: Customers don’t always love technology. It’s convenient to pay online, but it can also be a risk for the privacy of your customers. Customers who feel they can’t speak with live staff may feel undervalued and seek out other customer connections.
